Building Your List Of Email Leads

An email list is a very powerful marketing tool. Regardless of the content you offer, the products you sell, or the service you promote, you can sell to your list over and over again. Your first priority is to build an extensive list of opt-in leads that are interested in the area you operate in. The second priority is to provide them with value whenever you contact them. You will start to lose subscribers at an alarming rate if you send them any offer that doesn't meet their high expectations.

Always Opt-In

Leads must always have opted in to receive communication from you. Whether you farm email addresses from your own site, by offering free reports or a newsletter, or you buy lists this is equally true. You will be reported for spamming if you send unsolicited emails. Once your IP address is flagged as being a known spam address it is very difficult, if not impossible, to recover. As well as using opt-in leads, you should ensure that your leads are always presented with the opportunity to opt out of receiving any further communication. Opting in and opting out should be simple procedures.

Buying Lists

If you've done any research on building a list of email leads you will have undoubtedly come across “fantastic” offers of thousands of leads for a couple of pounds. The short advice on this is to steer clear unless you are absolutely positive that those leads are opt-in and targeted. There are genuine services offering good quality leads, but these are rarely the cheap offers that frequent the majority of the search positions.

Renting Lists

Renting a list essentially enables you to forward a set number of emails to that list. You compile the sales email, pass it to the list owner, and they do the rest. You never gain access to the list because this would provide you with the opportunity to keep the details it contains. Renting a list can be a good way to start developing your own list, but careful attention needs to be paid in order to find well established lists that are only populated with opt-in leads.

Co-Registration Leads

When you sign up for newsletters or membership sites you can also sign up, or opt-in, to receive messages from carefully selected third parties. By signing up to build a co-registration list you are essentially becoming that third party. Again, this can provide an excellent way to build your own list by utilising the power of high traffic and high membership websites. Be sure that you only choose websites that will send targeted leads your way otherwise it can cost a lot of money for very few new list members.

Offer Something For Nothing

Manually building your own list requires a popular website or web page. Offer something for free, such as an e-book or special report, and collect names and email addresses from everybody that signs up. Polish the free product to perfection and really sell it as though you were trying to profit directly from it. Visitors will be drawn by the offer of something for nothing. Reports, newsletters, ebooks, video tutorials, and even audio interviews are just some of the possibilities.

Free Membership Site/Area

If you have a lot of free content you can offer you could consider setting up a free membership website, or a free membership area on your existing site. Again, you need to promote the free content as though you were selling it directly. Membership sites have proven to be a very popular method of building lists but they can take a lot of work, resource, or money to build properly.

Your Email List – Your Profit

An email list can really build your profits. It is possible to keep selling products or services to the same list over and over, presuming you provide quality offers and quality products. Building a list can be done in numerous ways, but you must always ensure that every list member has opted in and is given the opportunity to opt out of your email communications should they wish.
