Definition of Wiki

Wiki refers to a specific type of website, one that allows open editing. What this means is that web users can easily and readily edit, add, or delete the content of the website. This freely created modification of website content is referred to as open editing. The reasoning behind a Wiki is the simple interactive process that it allows to flow among the website users. Collaborative authoring is simplified within a Wiki due to the simplified rules of open usage.

The primary advantages of a Wiki are the global access to the site, the ease-of-use of the site, and the affordable cost of maintaining content on the site. A Wiki is the simplest database that exists online. Similar to blogging and forums, web authors can post their work immediately online without going through any type of editorial process that might limit their ability to post the information. Caution must be advised when taking things from a Wiki as the absolute truth due to the freedom of expression that is permissible.
