Definition of SMTPSMTP is an acronym for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. This is the standard TCP/IP protocol that comes into play when transmitting electronic mail messages (emails) between computers or from server to server. In fact, SMTP is currently the most popular method for the transmission of emails. In order to receive emails, an individual must set up an email account using the SMTP or Simple Mail Transfer Protocol address of their server. A protocol is the specification that defines the manner in which computers communicate with each other on a network. SMTP is text-based protocol that includes the message text, the specified recipients, and possibly additional encoded objects. Additionally, it is a push protocol, which means that the recipient or mail client cannot pull a message or messages from the server whenever they want to do so. It is necessary to set up extensions to SMTP in order to achieve encryption, authentication of the recipient or sender, or for the attachment of non-ASCII data. External links:Previous: Sitemap
