Definition of SERP

SERP, an acronym, stands for Search Engine Results Page or the page of search results that are returned by the search engine in response to a query by a web user. The query is typically in the form of a specific keyword or keyword phrase that is entered into any one of several search engines. The Search Engine Results Page is the particular spot where websites are ranked by search engines based on specific keywords or keyword phrases. Websites typically attempt to incorporate search engine optimisation through the keywords that they include on their webpages in order to gain a higher ranking on the Search Engine Results Page.

Whenever a search engine changes or modifies the algorithm that it uses to rank websites, this ranking position of the websites can change. In fact, each keyword or keyword phrase that is used will create its own ranking position as can each webpage on any website.
