Definition of SEO

SEO refers to Search Engine Optimisation or the process of optimizing a webpage so that it will earn a higher page ranking for search engine results. The most common technique that is utilized to optimise a webpage is keyword optimisation. This strategy involves incorporating specific keywords into the webpage so that the page will come up in return to a request for information pertaining to that specific keyword. Search engine optimisation is a critical aspect for the success of any online business whether it is selling products or services.

Certain standards are held in place to guide website owners in their quest for search engine optimisation. Following these practices is often referred to as white hat SEO, whereas circumventing the standards is referred to as black hat SEO or spamdexing. Search Engine Optimisation is used to draw more traffic to a website. SEO can also refer to search engine optimisers who incorporate optimizing strategies on behalf of a client.
