Definition of Perl

Perl stands for Practical Extraction and Report Language. It is a form of script programming language that was developed for text manipulation or the processing of text. Perl is noted for having versatile capabilities to the point that it offers a number of different methods for completing any single task. Due to the ease of using Perl, it is not necessary for someone to have the skills that are often acquired in formal programming training. Despite this aspect to Perl, it also features several sophisticated functions that make it popular with professionals who use it to create complex software designed to process software.

Today, Perl is used for a diverse range of small and large projects including GUO development, web development of large websites, CGI development, and more. Unfortunately, the features of Perl do not support using graphical user interface. However, it is available for use with most platforms including Macintosh and Windows.
