Definition of Online Marketing


Online Marketing can also be referred to as Internet marketing or e-marketing. It is the strategy or process of marketing diverse products over the Internet through websites. Online marketing employs the traditional marketing principles of offline marketing strategies or the “brick and mortar” style of marketing with the interactive qualities of the Internet environment to create a unique marketing environment. The primary purpose of online marketing is to create a revenue for the website owner through the process of providing desirable services and products to online customers. Online marketing offers the opportunity for instant response in a relatively low-cost environment.

Online marketing employs a number of specific marketing strategies or campaigns in order to generate traffic to their website. Some of these techniques include SEO (search engine optimization) techniques, affiliate marketing strategies, ad banners, e-mail campaigns, blogs, contextual-based advertising, links, chat room postings, IPM (in-player messaging campaigns, and forum postings.
