Definition of Linux

Linux, developed by Linus Torvalds in cooperation with other global developers, is an operating system that is available to anyone free of charge. In particular, it is a freely available Unix-type system that can be used as a server platform and in home and office computers as an operating system. Linux can be directly embedded into microchips and has been successfully incorporated into many devices and appliances using this method.

The core of the system is offered under the GNU General Public License. Its source code is the foundation for the Linux operating system. Linux is highly functional and adaptable. Several different versions of Linux exist. The “Knoppix” version of Linux is bootable from a computer’s CD drive. Each version of Linux is referred to as a Linux distribution. Although each version includes the source code, it also includes a variety of tools, programs, and applications specific to itself.
