Definition of Keyword Popularity Research

Keyword popularity research involves the quest to discover keywords that have a high effectiveness as a keyword. In particular, keywords are scored on the basis of a ratio that is defined as the number of results divided by the number of searches. The closer this number is to zero, the better the effectiveness of the keyword. Typically, calculations that fall below a value of ten are considered good. The number of results is also viewed as the competition and the number of searches is viewed as the popularity. Therefore, the ratio can be defined as the competition/popularity or the results/searches.

Another method for calculating the effectiveness of a keyword is the KEI or keyword effectiveness index. This formula or calculation produces a number that is much higher than the one calculated with the previous formula. A calculation that leads to a number over 400 is excellent. A number of tools are available to perform the calculations for website owners.
