Definition of Key Phrase

Key Phrase is often used synonymously with keyphrase, phrase, or keyword. It is the term that web users place in the search box of the search engine when browsing the Internet for information on websites, products, content, and more. Popular web search engines include but are not limited to MSN, Yahoo, Dogpile, Metacrawler, and Google. The key phrase is also the term that search engines use when gathering the results for the search.

Key phrases compete with each other and bring different competition levels, traffic levels, and significance to the search that is conducted using the key phrases. Key phrases are used by website owners to optimise their content and earn a higher page ranking for each individual page of their website. Therefore, the key phrases used should be as relevant as possible to the content of the webpage in order to produce the most successful hits or page views.
