Definition of Hyperlink

A hyperlink is a facet or part of an electronic document that is linked to another location on the electronic document or to another electronic document entirely. Although a hyperlink is usually presented as text, it can also be shown as graphics. The hyperlinks on a Website can be clicked with a mouse in order to transfer the user to a different place on that Webpage or on a different Webpage entirely.

Typically, a hyperlink appears in a colour that is different from the colour of the rest of the text in the document. When a hyperlink is clicked by the user, it takes the user to the location that it is linked to. Hyperlinks are typically coded in HTML. Hyperlinks can also be used to load multimedia files. AU sound files and AVI movies are examples of the multimedia files that can be loaded using hyperlinks
