Definition of CSS

In web usage, CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets. CSS provides a great amount of control over the design of a website. CSS is a stylesheet language that is utilized to describe how documents composed in markup language are presented. It is a very commonly used application for styling the pages of Websites. It is often used to format documents that include HTML, XHTML, XML, and SGML documents.

CSS is utilized to enable readers to clearly define fonts, colours, layouts, and all other areas of document presentation. It provides a separation from the document content as presented in markup language and the presentation of the document as it is presented in CSS. This separation enhances the overall accessibility of the content as well as the presentation of the document. CSS also enables the presentation of the document for a variety of methods including onscreen, Braille-based, voice presentation, and print-based presentation.
