CMS or content management system, a type of software program or graphical user interface, is used to create a framework that will be used for the management of the content of a website. It offers a viable alternative to using IT personnel or technologically trained employees or outside individuals in order to manage the content of the website. CMS is a comprehensive management solution for managing web content in a collaborative effort from content origination to display.

This application has been designed to provide for the storage, formatting, reproduction, and management of data within an intranet for the Web. The most common method for storing the content typically involves a database of some type. Data recall and presentation is typically managed with a scripting language of some type.
